The Plaza Hotel welcomes La Palestra wellness centers to their basement levels. Designed by Frank Gehry, this exclusive workout spot combines a holistic approach to fitness with careful integration of existing cultural detail, the building’s weather columns and exposed subway tiles to offset first-class gym equipment. The fitness center also includes medical examination rooms and personal instruction rooms. All rooms are equipped with functional lighting geared to adapt to the time of day. Annual membership to La Palestra at the Plaza Hotel is about $8,800, depending on your program.
Founded in 1993, La Palestra’s mission is to improve the quality of clients’ lives through exercise, education and community. Committed to being actively involved in the definition of a new generation of health care, they focus on the philosophy of “mens sana in copore sano,” or a sound mind in a sound body with a deep respect for life and exploration of its possibilities.
The core staff at La Palestra centers consists of an elite group of practitioners in a variety of disciplines from internal medicine, orthopedics, nutrition, psychology, clinical social work, physical therapy, chiropractic care, cardiology, acupuncture and massage therapy; as well as hand-picked exercise specialists and physiologists.
The hybrid medical-fitness center has grown into several facilities, while diversified in scope and programming into a full service design and management company.
