In an attempt to benefit research on Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, a handful of the world’s finest watch makers have teamed up to create the 5th Edition of Only Watch charity auction, where fine watch making has developed as a creative support for research on muscular dystrophy. President of the Monaco Association against Muscular Dystrophies (A.M.M.) Luc Pettavino started this event back in 2005. Only Watch 2013 takes place on September 28th in Monaco, where each auctioneer will donate a unique timepiece, designed specifically for the event. All of the proceeds from the occasion will be donated to the Monegasque Association against Muscular Dystrophy.
The list of luxury watches include brands Armin Strom, Piaget, Patek Philippe, Harry Winston, Chanel, Chronoswiss, and Blancpain. These watches will be showcased in the 2013 Only Watch World Tour starting on September 6th in Singapore. The showcase will then hit the cities of Hong Kong, Shanghai, Beijing, New York, and Geneva. The tour will end in Monaco where the annual Yacht Show will be hosting the Only Watch event.
The Monaco Yacht Show, along with Monegasque Association & Antiquorum Auctioneers, promotes this event in order to help finance MD research. Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy is a degenerative neuromuscular disease affecting nearly 250,000 children around the world. The fatal disease causes muscles in the body to degenerate at ages as young as 6 years old. The average life expectancy for those born with the disease is age 25. The proceeds will contribute to a number of research platforms such as gene therapy & various clinical trials.
