Bombay Sapphire’s First Production Facility Under Construction

The premier gin producer unveiled plans for the construction of a distillery in Laverstoke Mill, Hampshire. (UK) The project will transform the former water-powered paper mill site into a state of the art gin distillery and visitor center; the first opportunity the public has to discover the home of Bombay. Designed by Thomas Heatherwick and managed by Meller Ltd, the distillery is set to open fall 2013. The highlight of the build is the glass house for Bombay’s 10 botanicals; the centerpiece of the site and a symbol of the brand’s careful, skillful and imaginative approach to producing gin. Influenced by Britain’s rich heritage of glass structures, the house will be two separate structures providing a humid environment for spices that originate from the topics. Thomas Heatherwick, incorporated dramatic sculptural forms of the huge copper gin stills, showcasing the authentic distillation process, a method developed in 1761, making for a more interesting, memorable visitor experience.
